Taking a Break
I’m going to be taking December off from ranting against the regime. Even those who rant need a break.
I’ll be back sometime early next year—can you believe it? 2025! We’re a quarter of the way through the “new” century already.
And where are the flying cars we’ve been promised?
I’ll probably be back to ranting sometime in January. It all might depend if there’s anything left to be coming back to. As a dedicated Enemy Within to the incoming MAGA-NAZI regime, I might find myself being deported back to my radical Swiss-Italian country of origin. Another possibility is that anything resembling a free press, such as Substack, might be eradicated by early next year.
Who knows?
Waiting for Trump II to hit is like waiting for a category-5 hurricane to come ashore. (Hurricane Donnie.) Your hope is that the loss of life and property destruction won’t be as bad as it could be. Your fear is that those things will be even worse than anticipated.
Sorry to say, but I’m leaning toward the worse-than-anticipated scenario.
Which leads me to...
A Few Election-Result Observations
Here are some of my worst fears. First, on the domestic side:
1) A national abortion ban and the healthcare havoc that will inflict on women. All imposed by religious fascists and whining incel bros.
2) For-profit prison corporations drooling over the taxpayer dollars to be had as a result of Trump’s proposed policy for the mass deportation of migrants. Hey, someone’s got to build and run all those concentration camps...
3) Elon Musk telling Americans that we’re “going to have to tighten our belts” for a few years before his austerity plans will make everything all better. Sure, bro-boy. Billionaires always have the public interest at heart.
[Just a quick side-observation here, my fellow Americans. It would be useful for us to stop thinking of Billionaires as heroic “job creators.” Billionaires are more like ticks. They suck blood; they don’t create it. That is, Billionaires don’t create wealth; they suck wealth out of the working and especially the middle class. That’s Neoliberalism 101.]
4) Trump benefiting and taking credit for the amazing economy Biden is leaving him—and then within a year or two running that economy into the ground with his amoral tax cuts for tick-like Billionaires and Big Corporations as well as with his abjectly stupid idea of import tariffs.
There are SO many more domestic fears I could name. But now let’s turn to some of my biggest international fears:
1) Netanyahu, with the help of his good pal, Donnie, forcing Palestinians entirely from their homelands. Jared Kushner, backed by MBS, developing the Gaza Strip into beachfront resorts. And, while we’re at it, how about a bit of war with Iran?
2) The dissolution of NATO. The European Union retreating into a shell. Putin in Kiev. Orbán’s Hungary in Putin’s pocket. Throw into that pocket Belarus and Moldova. With Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the rest of Georgia in grave danger. And Putin eyeballing Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria. Hey, who’s up for the return of the Russian Empire, KGB-style?
3) China just taking Taiwan. Like it did with Hong Kong. With all the other international shit hitting the fan, who’s even going to notice?
4) Trump—finally realizing his pipedream of becoming a member of the Nuclear-Tipped Autocrat Club—doing his “art of the deal” bullshit to rake in international cash. Hey everybody! Only top dollar gets you a carrier group to anchor off your shore. And, as always, Top Secrets for sale!
And these just scratch the surface of my international fears. But my biggest fear of all is what should be our one—and only—existential concern:
1) Denial of climate change = kiss our comfortably livable planet goodbye.
But don’t worry. While we tighten our belts, the Billionaires will fortify their islands and harden their underground bunkers.
COMING IN 2025: ... maybe?
